The Talmud Torah school, or heder, – all the boys have to attend an elementary school, each man should be able to pray and read the Torah in the language of the Creator. Studying takes place in one of the rooms of the melamed, the heder teacher. Beginning with three years of age, boys study the alphabet and read texts in Hebrew without translation; beginning with five years of age, they read the Torah and the Talmud. From early morning to evening….
